Barfoot and Thompson Race 2

Race two of the Barfoot & Thompson combined 2 handed series was a cracker!

More sunshine, warm conditions, and 15-20 knot northerlies made for an epic days sailing.

There was some uncertainty in the morning when no one could spot the start boat (because it wasn’t there)  But we were soon to have services of both the clubs start boats, and after a short delay the  gun sounded for a long reach to haystack with about 17 boats enjoying the conditions.

Planet X was around first, followed by Glory Days, Prozac, Raiatea and  Charlatan  .  Wild Thing, sailing extremely well for an 8.4 metre boat rounded with Montrachet and First Priority, then took off on the gennaker hoist.

It was a great sight of the fleet going down the Rangi coastline with kites up.
The wind filled in for the beat back to Arkles Bay but easy on the bodies as everyone laid the finish without a tack.

Congratulations to Glory Days, Raiatea & Planet X for 1st, 2nd & 3rd and to Flasher for winning $50 as top boat from the other club.

BOAT HOP

Saturday, November 10th.  For those who have not been to one of our boat hops, the drill is; meet at the club at 1730hrs to be told which boats you are visiting. Then it is off to the first boat around 1800hrs with a plate of food to share and your own drinks. After an hour there, you move on to the next boat, also with a plate and drinks for another hour. By then a lot of new friends have been made!  Then it is everyone back to the club to party. Always a great night! Book soon!!!

OPEN DAY

SATURDAY OCT 27 !!!

Bring all your old boating junk that’s been mouldering away in the bilge/garage and sell it to someone who’s desperate for one of ‘THOSE!’

Our Open Day starts at 10.00 am, and you can refuel whilst there with a sausage in a bun and coffee or tea. Meet your fellow members and encourage visitors to join our wonderful club… whether they own a boat or not.

Be there and make it a great day!

Barfoot and Thompson Series Race 1

Boats Willing - Breeze Not!!!

What a fantastic turnout for the first race of the Barfoot & Thompson combined 2 handed yacht race series between the Weiti and Gulf Harbour Boat Clubs.

Eighteen boats crossed the start line on a beautiful sunny Saturday morning in about 8 knots of breeze headed upwind for haystack with a course around Tiri Island before heading back to the finish.

Unfortunately the wind God's were not cooperating and the breeze eventually glassed off completely on a shortened course with the result of only two boats making the finish off Haystack.

Congratulation to "Charlatan" for taking out the gun and handicap and "Wild Thing" the only other boat to finish, crossing 8 minutes behind.

With only two boats recording a result the series is still wide open and we look forward to the entire fleet of 25 entries lining up for the next race on Sunday, 28th October.

Check out the photos under Barfoot and Thompson Series/ gallery.
